Need a hand with AllSquare? Most answers are below. If yours isn't, email us and a real person will reply, usually within one business day.

If you can, include your iPhone model, your iOS version and the app version (Account tab, at the bottom).

Getting started

Create a group: open the Groups tab, tap + → Create group, then choose a name, type (home, trip, couple or other) and currency. Add people by email, or share the invite link.

Join a group: open the invite link someone sent you, or on the Groups tab tap + → Join with invite code and paste the code.

Add a friend outside a group: open the Friends tab, tap Add friend and enter their email. They don't need an account yet; when they sign up with that email, your shared expenses will be waiting.

Adding and splitting expenses

Tap Add expense, enter the amount and a description, then tap the sentence "Paid by you and split equally" to change who paid and how to split. You can split:

If several people paid, turn on Multiple people paid and enter what each paid.

Why does someone pay one cent more? When an amount can't be split evenly (say $10.00 three ways), the leftover cent goes to one person. AllSquare rotates who gets it from one expense to the next, so it evens out over time.

Simplify debts

With Simplify group debts on (open the group, then the gear icon for Group settings), AllSquare suggests the fewest payments that would settle the whole group. It never changes how much anyone owes or is owed in total, only who pays whom. Turn it off to see the original, person-to-person debts.

Settling up

Tap Settle up in a group or on a friend, choose the person and confirm the amount. Then either record a cash payment, or open Venmo, PayPal.me or UPI with the amount filled in and confirm once you've paid. Add your own payment handles under Account so friends can pay you the same way. AllSquare never moves money itself.

Currencies

Each expense can use any of more than 50 currencies; tap the currency next to the amount. Balances are shown separately for each currency, and AllSquare doesn't convert between them.

Recurring expenses

When adding an expense, set Repeat to weekly, every two weeks, monthly or yearly. A monthly expense on the 31st falls on the last day of shorter months.

Editing, deleting and restoring

Open an expense to edit it. Every change is recorded in its history, so everyone can see what changed. Deleted an expense by mistake? Open it from the Activity tab and tap Restore.

Notifications

AllSquare asks for notification permission after you sign in. If you're not getting alerts, check iOS Settings → Notifications → AllSquare, and make sure you're signed in on that device.

Offline

You can add expenses without a connection. They show as pending and sync automatically when you're back online.
