AllSquare is an app for tracking shared expenses, made by iOSVenture ("we"). To let you share expenses with other people, AllSquare has to store some information on our servers. This page explains exactly what that is, why, and how you stay in control. The short version: we keep only what the app needs to work, we never sell it, and there are no ads or trackers.
What we store, and why
| Data | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Your name and email address | Your account, and so friends can add you and see who's who |
| Your password, stored only as a salted hash (scrypt) | Signing in with email. We can never see your actual password |
| Sign in with Apple identifier | Signing in with Apple, if you choose it. If you use "Hide My Email", we only see Apple's relay address |
| Groups, friends, expenses, amounts, splits, payments, notes and comments | The core of the app: working out who owes whom |
| Receipt photos you attach | Showing the receipt on the expense to people who share it |
| Optional Venmo, PayPal.me and UPI handles you enter | Letting friends open a payment to you with the amount filled in |
| Default currency and language | Showing amounts the way you expect |
| Push notification token | Sending you notifications about expenses and payments. You can turn these off at any time in iOS Settings |
We use this data only to provide AllSquare's features. It is linked to your account, and it is never used for advertising or tracking.
Who can see your data
- People you share with. Members of a group can see that group's expenses, balances, comments and receipts. A friend you share a non-group expense with can see that expense. Your name and email are visible to the people you're in groups or expenses with.
- Nobody else. Other AllSquare users can't browse or search for your data.
- Service providers that run our infrastructure (hosting and Apple's push notification service) process data only to run AllSquare for us.
Payments
AllSquare never moves or holds money, and never asks for card or bank details. When you settle up, you either record a cash payment or AllSquare opens your own Venmo, PayPal or UPI app with the amount filled in. That payment happens entirely in the other app, under its own privacy policy. AllSquare only records that a payment was made, and only when you confirm it.
What we don't do
- No ads, and no advertising or analytics SDKs in the app
- No tracking across other apps or websites, and no selling or renting of your data
- No access to your contacts, location, microphone or health data
- The camera and photo library are used only when you choose to attach a receipt
Keeping your data safe
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Sign-in sessions use short-lived access tokens and rotating refresh tokens stored in the iOS Keychain. Receipt photos are served only through links that expire after one hour.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app: Account → Delete account. Your name, email, password, payment handles and devices are removed. Expenses you shared with other people stay in their history so their balances remain correct, but they show "Deleted user" instead of your name. If you'd rather we handle it, email us and we'll do it for you.
You can also export any group's expenses to a spreadsheet (CSV) from the group screen, and ask us for a copy of all your data.
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. Deleted expenses are kept so they can be restored, and are removed or anonymized when you delete your account.
Children
AllSquare isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. Like most websites, our hosting and our network provider (Cloudflare) process standard request information, such as your IP address, to deliver the pages and protect against abuse.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, or to object to how it's used. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how your existing data is used, we'll tell you in the app first.
